I've never known a time in my life without dogs. I began competing with dogs in 1984 under the tutorage of Dick Russell. Dick Russell was like the father I never had and his mentorship changed my life. Dick taught me to do everything in my power to motivate and help people train their dogs and "never charge them another red cent." Dick Russell , Just as Dick used to do, I offer the lifetime of your dog guarantee at no extra cost. I will do everything I can within the confines of the class to ensure you mold your dog into the Dream Dog you have always wanted. Early in 1990 Dick approach me and said, "Ganetta, you are good at this and I believe you could be great. Why don't you come work for me?" Dick Russell . So it began that I worked with Dick Russell. Dick also told me, "In this business, you can't give it away enough." Dick Russell. Dick taught me tremendous work ethic and to stay focused on the goal: do everything in my power to motivate and help people train their dogs. Early in 1995 Dick approached me again and said, "Ganetta, you are truly fantastic at this and I don't want to have to compete with you. I want to set you up teaching classes in Ascension Parish; BUT YOU GOTA PROMISE ME NEVER TO TEACH IN EAST BATON ROUGE PARISH." Dick Russell.
So there was the the deal of my lifetime. In 1995 Dick Russell sponsored me to become a professional level Dog Obedience Instructor with NADOI. Dick would continue to mentor me; however, I had to stay out of EBR. Dick had a wonderful way with words and always made me feel special. We both kept our word and remained friends until his death. There are still times in my success that I want to call Dick and celebrate over dinner at Sammy's Grill. Dick would drink his beer and say that was how he got his protein. :-)
I regularly attend professional-level dog training seminars and compete with my own dogs in AKC sanctioned trials. Since 1985, I've been member of and donate my time to my local AKC sanctioned dog training club. I believe ALL obedience instructors should keep up with the latest training techniques and be judged by their peers. "Any idiot can use his own dog and make himself look good before beginners." Dick Russell
I ask you, Do you know what a real-live professionally trained dog looks like? Do you know what it should be able to do? Dick had a point! It takes a professional dog-trainer to go before their peers and place in the ribbons at competition. My peers know what my dogs have to be able to do. It's important to ask your current instructor where and at what level they compete!
Through my 25+ years of experience, I have learned to accommodate the needs of all the popular breeds, as well as many cross-breeds within those popular breeds. I have also worked with unique or quirky breeds including those not accepted by some popular pet stores or doggie day-care centers offering pet classes.
I welcome all dog breeds and all dog temperaments. I understand what it is like to have a "quirky" dog and welcome the opportunity to help him become your forever dream-dog.
Contrary to what you will be led to believe at pet stores or doggie day-car centers, it is a fact that not all dogs want to please. With special dogs like these, we have to be very clever and go beyond what you will find at the popular pet stores or doggie day cares. While my training principle still applies to dogs that are not interested in pleasing, it takes experience with clever techniques to rehabilitate them. After your dog is enrolled in my basic class, I am committed to help you train him, with all his imperfections, to become your forever dream-dog using reward-based training that allows him to problem solve in the natural way dogs learn.
As Dick taught me from the beginning, I believe I should do whatever it takes using all my knowledge and resources within the confines of my class setting so every dog enrolled in my obedience class can become their owner's dream dog. I do this by offering continued support and reward-based training. It's my lifetime of your dog guarantee and my reputation depends on your dog's and your continued success.
